Our Equipment

The department hosts the latest technology ultrasound machines, digital radiographic equipment, a high speed 64-slice CT scanner and the first 'wide-bore' MRI scanner on the Gold Coast. Combined, these technologies help to minimise x-ray dose while maximising diagnostic quality.

The MRI scanner was designed for all patient types and sizes with a maximum weight tolerance of 250kgs. With its wide-bore and open design, coupled with hi-speed scanning sequences, it is particularly useful for claustrophobic patients.

Preparation for Your Test

When arranging your appointment our staff will advise you of the preparation procedures you will be required to perform prior to your test.  If you have any questions related to any of the preparations, please contact us on 07 5591 9954.

What Do I Wear for MRI Examinations?

Try and wear comfortable and loose fitting clothing where ever possible without metal zips or fasteners. This should reduce the requirement to change you into a hospital gown. Make sure you remove all jewellery and do not wear heavy makeup or mascara.

MRI Safety

Because of the strong magnetic fields and fluctuating gradient magnetic fields associated with MRI scanners please be aware of the following safety precautions:

If you have any of the following, contact the department immediately:

  • Current or previous Cardiac Pacemaker
  • Aneurysm clips in your brain
  • Neural or Spinal Stimulator device
  • Cochlear implant

If you have had a penetrating eye injury with a metal object or foreign body, please phone the department. We may need to arrange an orbits x-ray prior to your MRI.

MRI Contrast Agents

Occasionally we are required to give and injection of a gadolinium based contrast agent as part of the MRI procedure. This is often required where patients have had surgery at the site we are imaging or for angiographic studies. Some specialised Abdominal and Pelvic MRI exams will also require contrast. Please let us know if you are suffering any renal impairment at the time of your appointment booking. We may need to arrange a blood test to determine your current renal function.

If you have any questions related to any of the preparations, please contact us on 07 5591 9954.

Parking

There is allocated parking for patients attending appointments at Allamanda Private Imaging. Enter via the Allamanda Private Hospital, Accident and Emergency driveway entrance and park underneath the building on the right, just beyond the boom-gate.
